How to choose the best 1800 compact keyboard

What is 1800 compact keyboard

1800 compact keyboards (also known as compact full-size keyboards) are a unique layout that crams as many keys as possible into a small space. They are similar to full-sized keyboards, except that the number pad and home cluster are smushed together to save space.

The compact 1800 keyboard layout is still much shorter than a standard full-size keyboard, allowing for more work space while still including a number pad. The 1800 features 99 keys with high-quality, robust, and thick PBT double shot keycaps.

They are renowned for their ruggedness. These are PBT keycaps that are extremely comfortable to type on for extended periods of time.

Where little used keys were eliminated and all keys were consolidated. It still fits a range of office requirements, but has a more compact overall design.

Benefits of 1800 keyboard

It enables you to conserve space.

The 1800 keyboards’ compact size makes them an excellent solution for cramped places without sacrificing the comfort of a full-sized keyboard. Additionally, it can be an excellent solution in terms of portability.

Indeed, it can be an excellent way to maximize your desk space while also being portable. They are physically identical to the 80 percent and 60 percent keyboards, but have a full-sized keyboard.

A small design that includes all of the keys found on a full-sized keyboard.

That is the primary benefit that the 1800 keyboard should provide. You can enjoy the full-sized keyboard’s performance in a tiny package.

The primary criticism leveled with 1800 keyboards is their lack of a numeric keypad. However, the 1800 small mechanical keyboard provides dual functionality and eliminates the requirement for a number pad.

Another nice feature is the modding capabilities of the 1800 small mechanical keyboard. The enormous degree of customization available with 1800 keyboards makes them an excellent choice. Indeed, you can customize the switches to your satisfaction. This would put them on a par with hot-swappable keyboards.

The cons of using 1800 keyboard

It may be slightly more difficult to type on them.

Unless you have some experience, typing on the 1800 small mechanical keyboards will be a little challenging. The functionality is identical to that of a full-sized keyboard, however the keys may be misplaced. The keys are quite close together, which makes typing a little more difficult. Additionally, they may be in the wrong location. In some cases, the clustered design might be a nightmare.

You have a limited number of possibilities.

The possibilities for the 1800 mechanical keyboard are somewhat limited and scarce. Of course, you may choose for modifying, but the current modding choices are quite limited. However, the restricted number of viable solutions can be a source of anxiety.

Factors to consider before buying a computer 1800 keyboard

1) Numerous applications

While many people use their keyboards at work or school, others may use them exclusively at home. If the computer will be used daily and maybe for rather intensive typing, it may be worthwhile to invest in a high-quality product.

There are numerous inexpensive alternatives available, but investing in the best keyboard you can afford will save your hands from pain and cramping.

2) Ergonomic design

Ergonomic keyboards are superior to regular keyboards if you type frequently or spend several hours typing at a time. While they are more expensive, they are more comfortable to wear and can help alleviate hand strain.

Typically, an ergonomic keyboard will have an arc design with a curved shape that corresponds to the natural curve of your hands. You should test them out first before purchasing one, as some individuals struggle to adjust to this sort of keyboard.

3) Wi-Fi or wireless

If your house or business is small, you may want to consider purchasing a wireless keyboard. While a wired USB connection is less expensive, it is also less practical because cables can become tangled and may limit how far away from your computer you can sit.

Wireless keyboards have a USB dongle that connects to your laptop or desktop computer. This is an excellent option if you spend a lot of time typing and want additional mobility.

4) The number of keys

Although the regular size keyboard offers 104 keys (including the number pad), if you are a gamer or enjoy using shortcuts and media control, you should consider purchasing the Redragon K512. These large keyboards include additional buttons for media controls and other custom functions.

On the other side, compact keyboards contain fewer keys, making them more portable and taking up less desk space.

5) Portable & detachable

If you find yourself typing for extended periods of time, a keyboard with an armrest may be a wise investment. They are excellent for relieving tension in the hands and wrists.

Numerous types also include adjustable heights to accommodate any desk. The Redragon K512 Shiva keyboard features a retractable armrest, making it a comfortable alternative.

6) Type of switch ( Linear, Mechanical, Membrane )

Mechanical and membrane switches are the two most common types of keyboard switches. Mechanical switches contain a physical spring that pushes the key back up when pressed, whereas membrane switches have no moving parts and are therefore more flimsy in construction.

Mechanical switches provide a significantly better typing experience than electronic switches do because they provide tactile feedback with each click, which is ideal for typing. They are more expensive, but they will last longer and may be worthwhile if you spend lengthy hours each day typing.

On the other hand, the majority of membrane keyboards employ scissor-switch mechanisms that provide a soft, silent typing experience but do not provide full key rollover.

Linear switches (such as the Cherry MX Red) lack both feedback and a distinctive clicking sound. This is preferable for people who operate in communal settings where excessive noise can annoy others.

7) RGB illumination

If you enjoy customizing your keyboard, investing in one with backlighting is an excellent way to personalize your computer. The lights can be configured to coordinate with the rest of your gaming equipment or to correspond to a theme.

You may even assign a different color to each row of keys to aid in finding what you’re looking for.

RGB keyboards allow for greater personalization than normal keyboards, however they are more expensive and do not always include backlighting on all keys, which gamers like.

The Logitech g pro mechanical gaming keyboard may be a decent option if you’re looking for RGB lighting. It features LIGHTSYNC RGB illuminated keys with 16.8 million colors, which is fantastic.

8) Price

While a budget keyboard may be adequate for casual usage, it is not the greatest option if you frequently type or are an avid gamer. Thus, price becomes critical, as you will undoubtedly be willing to spend more for a high-quality keyboard.

If you spend extended periods of time typing or frequently use your computer, it’s worth investing in a high-quality mechanical gaming keyboard, such as the Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical Keyboard. It is pricey, but provides excellent performance and longevity for years to come.

Another significant factor that affects pricing is the features you desire. A keyboard equipped with RGB lighting, programmable buttons, armrests, and wireless technology will cost more than a standard keyboard.

9) Comfort

When selecting a keyboard, the primary consideration should be comfort. While typing and resting on keys, your fingers should be comfortable; you should not feel any discomfort or strain in your hand, which might occur if you choose the incorrect size keycaps.

Assure that there is sufficient space between each row of keys so that you can easily reach them all without straining your hand.

Additionally, you can look for a keyboard with a variety of key sizes to give you more alternatives when it comes to choosing the perfect keycap size that fits your fingertips comfortably and provides comfort while typing or gaming sessions.

10) Battery life and ports

While a wireless keyboard is an excellent choice if you want to keep your desk as clutter-free as possible, it does mean that the batteries will need to be recharged more frequently. Certain models, such as the Logitech MK735 Performance Wireless Keyboard, offer 36 months of battery life.

Certain keyboards offer the option of a wired or wireless connection through detachable wires. It is advantageous because you will not constantly require a wireless keyboard, so conserving battery life.

While the majority of wireless keyboards include a micro-USB port for charging the batteries, there are others that use AA or AAA batteries that will need to be replaced every now and then. If you want something hassle-free, opt for rechargeable Li-Ion batteries over disposable ones; they may cost more initially, but will save you money in the long run.

The keys of keyboard

The keyboard’s alphanumeric keys

The alphanumeric keys on the keyboard are those that may be used to type letters or numbers in the editor. They include all of the alphabetical keys from A to Z, as well as the number keys above that.

Not only can the number keys be used to enter numbers, but they can also be used as a symbol keyboard, allowing for the entry of various symbols such as the $, percent, @, and a variety of other useful symbols. On the right side of the keyboard, you’ll find another number keypad.

However, this is dependent on the keyboard model, and in some compact keyboards designed for laptops, a separate numeric keypad may be lacking to lower the total size of the keyboard.

Keys to punctuation

The function keys on the keyboard are those that may be used to type punctuation and a variety of additional punctuation symbols in text editors. These keys are also used when typing, and as you can see from your keyboard, each of the keyboards can be used to type in two distinct punctuation symbols.

You can type the symbol that appears on top of each key by holding down the shift key.

Keys for navigation

The navigation keys on the keyboard are used to move about a web page, document, or any other thing on the screen. The navigation keys can be used to move the cursor in various ways across the selected element, including left, right, up, and down.

When the num lock is disabled, the dedicated numeric keypad can also be used as navigation keys. The navigation keys are also useful when playing some games since they allow the player to move the character in various directions.

Keyboard shortcuts

The function keys are those on top of a standard keyboard that begin with the letter ‘F’ and range from F1 to F12, each of which can be used to do a variety of various tasks depending on the selected software and operating system. However, the majority of function keys have certain common usage, such as opening the help file with the F1 button, or searching for something with the F3 button, and so on.

On the case of a multimedia keyboard, the function key row is located directly beneath the multimedia keys, and in certain general-purpose keyboards, the function keys double as multimedia keys, with those additional tasks initiated by pressing the additional ‘Fn’ button on various terms.

Keyboard Controls

Generally, these keys cannot work independently, and you must use a control key in conjunction with another key to complete a task. For instance, ‘Ctrl’ and ‘Alt’ are keyboard keys that, when combined with other keys, can be used to do specific functions depending on the application being used.

Additionally, multiple control keys can be used in conjunction with another key to initiate an action, such as ‘Ctrl + Alt + Del’ to open the task manager. However, in some applications, the control keys can be used alone; for example, in VirtualBox, the ‘Ctrl’ key is the default key for returning to the host and controlling it.

Unique Keys

The special keys on the keyboard are used to do various tasks, such as deleting a file or any character in front of the cursor, moving to the next line for inputting text, and so on. The Windows key on the keyboard is optimized for Windows and can be used alone or in combination with other keys to open various elements within a Windows computer or to perform specific tasks, such as ‘Windows + L’ to lock the computer, ‘Windows + R’ to open ‘Run’, and ‘Windows + I’ to open ‘Settings’.

Toggle Keyboard

On a keyboard, there are three toggle keys; however, in the majority of modern keyboards, there are only two, notably the Caps Lock and Num Lock. In an effort to reduce the size of the keyboard, the majority of manufacturers omit the Scroll Lock key, which is no longer used.

Each toggle key toggles an indicator on the keyboard; nevertheless, for the sake of compactness, you can discover keyboards with no indicators at all. When the Caps Lock indicator is on, you can enter everything in capital letters; when the Num Lock indicator is off, you can use the numeric keypad’s digits; and when it is off, you can navigate using the numeric keys.

The Scroll key is used to scroll around a page, and while it is utilized in some applications, such as Microsoft Excel, it is not extensively used, and so is not included on the majority of keyboards.

Different keyboard sizes

This size is typically not available for homemade keyboards; it is only found on pre-built keyboards. You might be able to find a full-sized bespoke keyboard if you’re lucky.

1800-compact keyboard (96 percent )

A extremely cool layout size that eliminates the navigation cluster and squishes the number pad into the remaining keys. This size is only available through group purchases.

A typical keyboard configuration that eliminates the number pad while retaining the remainder of the keyboard layout.

Similar to tenkeyless, except that the navigation cluster is vertically positioned to conserve space. It’s enjoyable and convenient to use.

This configuration eliminates the function row while retaining a portion of the navigation cluster. Additionally, it is the smallest keyboard size with dedicated arrow keys.

This is the most often used custom keyboard layout. There is no function row, arrow keys, or clustered navigation. You can easily locate parts 60 percent of the time.

The smallest size that is still usable for typing. It’s essentially a 60% keyboard without the numeric keys. To use this size effectively, you’ll need to become accustomed to typing on multiple layers. For a 40% layout, a lengthy adjusting period is required.

Essentially, a separate number pad to which macros can be assigned. It’s a lot of fun to use alongside your primary keyboard.
